RETRACTION AND CORRECTION
Retraction & Correction (R & C) Policy
We acknowledge the careful effort the authors have invested in preparing the manuscript, and we have conducted a thorough peer review process. However, it is important to recognize that there may be instances where a published article could be retracted or removed for scientific reasons. Such actions are not to be taken lightly and should only occur under exceptional circumstances. Therefore, any necessary corrections, clarifications, retractions, or apologies will be executed in accordance with strict standards to uphold confidence in the integrity of the electronic archive. Our commitment and policy are focused on maintaining the integrity and completeness of the scientific archives that are essential to researchers and librarians.
Article Retraction
The Ulul Albab: Jurnal Studi dan Penelitian Hukum Islam (JUA) is dedicated to upholding the integrity of the scholarly record. Consequently, there are circumstances under which articles may need to be retracted. Articles may be retracted if:
- There are substantial scientific errors that may compromise the validity of the article's conclusions. For instance, there is compelling evidence indicating that the findings presented are unreliable, potentially due to unintentional errors (e.g., data fabrication) or intentional errors (e.g., calculation or experimental errors).
- The findings have previously been published in other sources without sufficient cross-referencing, permission, or justification, such as in instances of over-publication.
- There are ethical issues, such as plagiarism, defined as the unauthorized use of another individual's ideas, processes, results, or words without proper attribution. This includes instances where information is obtained through confidential reviews of another person's manuscript, as well as cases of inappropriate authorship.
To ensure that manuscript retraction is conducted in accordance with best practices in publication and in alignment with the guidelines for manuscript retraction provided by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), JUA adopts the following retraction process:
- A potentially retractable article will be submitted to the journal editor for consideration.
- Journal editors should adhere to the step-by-step guidelines outlined in the COPE flowchart, which includes evaluating the responses from the authors of the article in question.
- Before any action is taken, the editor's findings should be presented to the Ethics Advisory Board. This step ensures that the approach taken aligns with industry best practices.
- The final decision regarding the retraction of the manuscript is communicated to the author and, if necessary, to other relevant institutions, including the author's affiliated institution.
- The retraction statement is subsequently published online and included in the next available issue of the journal (see below for further details regarding this step).
It is important to note that although authors hold the copyright to their articles, this does not automatically grant them the right to retract the work after publication. The integrity of the published scientific record is of utmost importance, and the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) Retraction Guidelines remain applicable in this context.
Article Correction
The JUA should contemplate the publication of a correction if:
- A minority of reputable publications may present flawed or misleading data, particularly when such inaccuracies stem from intentional errors.
- The list of authors or contributors is inaccurate; for instance, eligible authors have been removed, and individuals who do not meet the authorship criteria have been included.
Corrections to peer-reviewed content can be classified into one of the following three categories:
- to inform readers of significant errors committed by the publishing or journal staff, typically pertaining to production errors, which adversely affect the publication record and scientific integrity of the article, as well as the reputation of the author and the journal. (ralat)
- to inform the reader of a significant error made by the author that adversely affects the publication record, the scientific integrity of the article, or the reputation of the author and the journal. (corrigendum)
- an addendum to an article by an author serves to clarify inconsistencies, expand upon existing research, or provide updates and explanations regarding information presented in the main work.
The determination of whether a correction should be issued is the prerogative of the journal's Editor, who frequently considers recommendations from Reviewers or members of the Editorial Board. The designated Editor will engage with the Author of the manuscript in question to seek clarification; however, the ultimate decision regarding the necessity and nature of the correction lies exclusively with the Editor.
Article Removal
In certain limited circumstances, it may be necessary to remove a published article from our online platform. Such actions will only be undertaken if the article is found to be clearly defamatory, infringes upon the legal rights of another party, or if there are reasonable grounds to suspect that the article may be subject to a court order. Additionally, removal may occur if the article poses a significant health risk if acted upon. In these situations, while the metadata of the article (i.e., title and author information) will be preserved, the text of the article will be replaced with a notice indicating that the article has been removed for legal reasons.
Article Replacement
In circumstances where the implementation of an article could potentially present a substantial health risk, the authors of the original paper may contemplate retracting the problematic publication and substituting it with a revised version. In such instances, the retraction procedure outlined previously will be adhered to, with the additional provision that the retraction notification will incorporate a link to the corrected and republished article, along with the relevant document history.
