Retraction, Withdrawal, Correction, Removal, and Replacement Policy

Policy Statement

Insight on Educational Mathematics (IEM) is committed to maintaining the integrity, transparency, and reliability of the scholarly record. While every manuscript undergoes rigorous editorial screening and peer review before publication, situations may arise where published articles require correction, retraction, removal, or replacement.

Such actions are undertaken only when necessary to preserve the accuracy of the academic literature and are conducted in accordance with the principles and recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

Article Retraction

IEM may retract a published article when there is clear evidence that the findings or conclusions are unreliable due to:

  1. Research misconduct, including:

  • Data fabrication;

  • Data falsification;

  • Manipulation of results;

  • Citation manipulation.

  1. Major methodological or analytical errors that invalidate the conclusions.

  2. Plagiarism or substantial unattributed use of another person's work.

  3. Duplicate, redundant, or simultaneous publication without appropriate disclosure.

  4. Serious violations of publication ethics, including inappropriate authorship, undisclosed conflicts of interest, or unethical research practices.

Retraction Procedure

The journal follows COPE Retraction Guidelines and applies the following procedures:

  1. Potential concerns are reported to the Editor-in-Chief.

  2. The editorial team conducts a preliminary investigation.

  3. Authors are contacted and given an opportunity to respond.

  4. Additional evidence may be requested from authors, reviewers, institutions, or relevant parties.

  5. The Editorial Board evaluates all available information.

  6. A final decision is made by the Editor-in-Chief.

  7. If retraction is warranted, a formal retraction notice will be published and linked to the original article.

  8. The original article will remain accessible to preserve the scholarly record but will be clearly marked as “Retracted”.

Article Withdrawal

Authors may request withdrawal of a manuscript only before final acceptance for publication.

Withdrawal requests must:

  • Be submitted in writing by the corresponding author;

  • Include the reasons for withdrawal;

  • Be approved by all co-authors.

Once a manuscript has been formally accepted and entered the production process, withdrawal requests will be considered only under exceptional circumstances and subject to editorial approval.

Failure to respond to editorial communications during the review process may result in administrative withdrawal of the submission.

Article Corrections

IEM recognizes the importance of maintaining accurate scholarly records and may publish corrections when necessary.

Corrections may be issued when:

  1. A minor portion of an otherwise reliable article contains errors;

  2. Author information is incorrect;

  3. Affiliations or funding information require revision;

  4. Minor data presentation errors do not invalidate the study conclusions.

Types of Corrections

Publisher Correction (Erratum)

Issued when an error originates from the journal’s editorial or production process.

Author Correction (Corrigendum)

Issued when an error originates from the author(s).

Addendum

Issued when authors provide additional information that improves understanding of the published work but does not alter its conclusions.

The decision to publish a correction rests with the Editor-in-Chief and Editorial Board.

Article Removal

In exceptional circumstances, an article may be removed from the journal website if:

  1. The content is defamatory or unlawful;

  2. The article infringes copyright or legal rights;

  3. A court order requires removal;

  4. Publication poses a serious risk to public safety.

When removal is necessary:

  • The article metadata will remain available;

  • The full text will be replaced by a removal notice explaining the reason for removal.

Article Replacement

In rare situations where an article contains serious errors that could substantially mislead readers, authors may be permitted to replace the original publication with a corrected version.

The replacement process includes:

  1. Formal evaluation by the editorial team;

  2. Retraction of the original version;

  3. Publication of the corrected article;

  4. Linking both versions through a replacement notice to ensure transparency and preserve the publication record.

Post-Publication Updates

IEM supports responsible post-publication discussion and correction of the scientific record.

Following publication, the journal may issue:

  • Corrections;

  • Addenda;

  • Expressions of Concern;

  • Retractions;

  • Removals;

  • Replacements.

All post-publication actions will be clearly documented, permanently linked to the original article, and made openly available to readers.

All editorial actions concerning corrections, retractions, withdrawals, removals, and replacements are guided by fairness, evidence, due process, and internationally recognized ethical standards, particularly those established by COPE.
