Improving Employee Performance Through Work Environment and Work Discipline in a Palm Oil Factory Construction Company Pt Barkha Cipta Karya

Yandri Yanto

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of the work environment and work discipline on employee performance at PT Barkha Cipta Karya, a palm oil mill construction company. Employee performance is seen as a crucial factor in the company's success in achieving project targets, therefore, it is necessary to examine the factors that influence it. The independent variable in this study is the work environment, the mediating variable is work discipline, and the dependent variable is employee performance. The research method used a quantitative approach with Partial Least Squares (PLS-SEM) analysis techniques. The study respondents were 100 employees of PT Barkha Cipta Karya, selected using a purposive sampling method. Data were collected through a questionnaire designed based on indicators of the work environment, work discipline, and employee performance. The results of the study indicate that: (1) the work environment has a positive and significant effect on work discipline; (2) work discipline has a positive and significant effect on employee performance; (3) the work environment has a positive and significant effect on employee performance; and (4) work discipline is proven to partially mediate the influence of the work environment on employee performance. The R-square value of 0.38 for work discipline and 0.57 for employee performance indicates that this research model is in the moderate to strong category. The conclusion of this study is that a good work environment and high work discipline can improve employee performance in a palm oil mill construction company. The practical implications of this study emphasize the need for PT Barkha Cipta Karya to improve the physical, social, and psychological aspects of the work environment while strengthening the implementation of work discipline. This research is expected to contribute to the development of human resource management theory and serve as a practical reference for similar construction companies.
