Postmodern Aesthetics in the Essay Poem "Mata Luka Sengkon Karta" by Peri Sandi Huizche

Abstract

The evolution of Indonesian literature in the digital era has facilitated new expressive spaces   that   transcend   conventional   boundaries,   including   the   application   of

postmodernist aesthetics. This study aims to describe the postmodern aesthetics in the essay poem “Mata Luka Sengkon Karta” by Peri Sandi Huizche, published on the YouTube platform. Employing Piliang's  (1999)  postmodern  aesthetic framework,  the  analysis focuses on five key categories: pastiche, parody, kitsch, camp, and schizophrenia. The findings reveal a comprehensive identification of all five categories within the poem. Pastiche is evident in the amalgamation of Javanese literary style, historical narrative, and  religious-political discourse.  Parody  manifests  through  the  subversion  of  state symbols, developmental rhetoric, and religious rituals. Kitsch emerges via the sentimental and dramatic portrayal of rituals, symbols, and history. Camp is observed in excessive dramatization, theatricality, and the blending of serious with absurd elements. Meanwhile, schizophrenia is manifested through identity fragmentation, temporal disjunction, and a semiotic chaos representing a fractured social reality. These findings substantiate the poem's strong postmodernist aesthetic characteristics. Its presence on the digital medium of YouTube not only expands accessibility and interactivity but also affirms the role of digital literature as a relevant medium for social expression and critique in the contemporary era.
