Spirituality Needs Fulfillment In Elderly With Chronic Diseases In Nursing Home

Abstract


Introduction, Elderly people experience a degenerative process that causes decreased body function, making them susceptible to disease. Chronic illness often causes emotional problems. Spirituality will help the elderly improve their health and well-being. Objective: The objective is to describe the fulfillment of spiritual needs in the elderly with chronic diseases at the ursing Home. Method, The design of this study uses descriptive analytic. Samples were taken using simple random sampling technique, the number of samples was one hundred and twenty six elderly living in the Pucang Gading nursing home and the Wening Wardoyo nursing home in Semarang City. The instrument for measuring spiritual needs uses the Daily Spiritual Experience Scale (DSES) questionnaire. Data analysis using descriptive statistics. Results, The results showed that the characteristics of the respondents in the study were mostly 60-74 years old, 68 elderly (54.0%), 67 elderly female (53.2%) female, 90 elderly (71.4%) had lived in a nursing home for 1-5 years, 110 elderly (87.3%) were Muslim, had more than one chronic disease, 99 elderly (78.6%), had not been visited by their families, 95 elderly (75.4%) , and the elderly have a high level of spiritual needs as many as 72 elderly (57.1%). Conclusion, Most of the elderly living in the Nursing Home have a high level of spiritual needs.
