Abstract

ABSTRACT

This study examines the role of accessibility in creating inclusive public open spaces in the city of Ambon, focusing on two coastal public open space locations, namely Wainitu Beach and Amahusu Beach. The aim of this research is to measure the inclusivity level of public spaces based on public perception, viewed from two dimensions of accessibility: internal and external access. The methodology employed is a descriptive quantitative approach with data collection through questionnaires, interviews, and direct observations. The analysis is conducted using descriptive statistics and spatial analysis. The results show that both public open space locations have a relatively good inclusivity level, with average scores falling within the high category for both internal and external access. However, there are several aspects that still need improvement, such as facilities for vulnerable groups (people with disabilities, the elderly, and children), as well as ease of transportation access and parking areas. This study is expected to provide recommendations to the government to enhance the quality of public open spaces in Ambon City, making them more inclusive and accessible to all segments of society, supporting the goals of sustainable development, and aligning with the "Right to the City" principle, which is also relevant to achieving Goal 11 of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), emphasizing the importance of providing safe, inclusive, and accessible public spaces for everyone, particularly for vulnerable groups.
