Jo March’s Characterization as a Reflection of Liberal Feminism in Little Women (2019)

Abstract


This study examines the representation of women's struggles through a liberal feminist lens in Greta Gerwig’s Little Women (2019), with a focus on the main character, Jo March. Using Naomi Wolf’s theory of power feminism, the research analyzes Jo March’s characterization and the feminist ideals she embodies. The findings reveal that Jo is portrayed as intelligent, creative, ambitious, and principled, and that her journey reflects liberal feminist efforts to claim equal rights in education, economics, law, and social spheres.
