Meningkatkan Pengetahuan Kesehatan Keluarga terhadap Infeksi Menular Seksual (IMS) di Desa Bulu Cina, Hamparan Perak, Deli Serdang
Abstract
Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) remain a public health problem due to low levels of knowledge, high levels of stigma, and limited access to health information, particularly in Bulu Cina Village, Hamparan Perak District, Deli Serdang Regency. The main problems identified include a lack of public understanding of genital ulcers, pathological vaginal discharge, and the impact of gonorrhea on eye health. This community outreach project seeks to increase public knowledge and awareness regarding the prevention, early detection, and initial management of STIs. The method used was health education for the community and PKK cadres using an interactive lecture approach, discussions, demonstrations, and the use of educational media such as posters and leaflets. Evaluation was carried out through pretests and posttests to assess the increase in participants' knowledge. The activity was carried out on 45 respondents, the majority of whom were housewives with elementary to secondary education levels. The results showed a significant increase in knowledge after the education, indicated by an increase in knowledge categories for both genital ulcers from 2.2% to 77.8%, and for vaginal discharge and gonorrhea on eye health from 46.7% to 91.1%. The implications of this activity indicate that community-based health education is effective in increasing public understanding of STIs and has the potential to reduce the risk of delayed diagnosis and disease complications by increasing awareness of preventive behavior and early detection.
