Generative AI Policy

Policy on the Use of Generative AI and AI-assisted Technologies

Journal of Advanced Civil and Environmental Engineering (JACEE) is committed to maintaining the highest standards of publication ethics and research integrity. In response to the rapid development of Artificial Intelligence (AI), the journal has established the following guidelines regarding the use of Generative AI and AI-assisted technologies in manuscript preparation and review processes.

1. Authorship Requirements

Generative AI tools and AI-assisted technologies (such as ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot, or similar Large Language Models) cannot be listed as authors or co-authors. Authorship carries legal and ethical responsibilities, accountability for the manuscript's validity, and adherence to copyright laws—responsibilities that AI tools cannot fulfill.

2. Acceptable Use and Disclosure

Authors may use Generative AI tools strictly to assist in language editing, grammar checking, translation, and improving the readability of the text. Where AI technologies are used in the writing process, authors must declare this usage transparently:

  • Declaration Statement: Authors must include a clear declaration at the end of the manuscript (prior to the References section) detailing the name of the AI tool used, the version, and the specific purpose of its application.
  • Example Declaration: "During the preparation of this manuscript, the author(s) used [Tool Name/Version] to [e.g., improve the English language and grammar readability]. After using this tool, the author(s) thoroughly reviewed and edited the content as necessary and take full responsibility for the final content of the published article."

3. Misconduct and Prohibited Actions

Authors are fully accountable for the accuracy, integrity, and originality of their submission. The following actions constitute scientific misconduct and are strictly prohibited:

  • Generating core scientific ideas, data analysis, interpretations, or conclusions solely using AI.
  • Falsifying, fabricating, or generating artificial datasets using AI tools.
  • Relying on AI-generated citations, references, or DOIs without manual verification (as AI tools are known to generate false references).

4. Guidelines for Reviewers and Editors

Peer reviewers and editorial board members must maintain strict confidentiality regarding all submitted manuscripts. Uploading manuscripts or any part of submitted works into Generative AI tools or online platforms for review, summarization, or evaluation is strictly prohibited, as it violates confidentiality, author privacy, and intellectual property rights.
