The Relationship Between Pet Attachments and Subjective Well-Being in Pet Owners in Pekanbaru City
Abstract
The activity of raising animals has many benefits for physical and mental health. Pets will create pet attachment between humans and pets. This makes individuals feel happy, happy, meaningful and increases subjective well-being. The aim of this research is to determine the relationship between pet attachment and subjective well-being in pet owners in Pekanbaru City. The sample in this study was 124 people who had pets and sampling used a nonprobability sampling technique, namely purposive sampling. The pet attachment data collection method was measured using the Lexington Attachment to Pets Scale (LAPS) and subjective well-being was measured using the Satisfaction With Life Scale and the Scale of Positive and Negative Experiences. The data analysis technique uses SEM with a Partial Least Square (PLS) approach with smartPLS 3.0 M3 software. Based on the research results, the coefficient value of the relationship between pet attachment and subjective well-being is 0.567 with a p value of 0.000 < 0.05 and a calculated t value of 7.210. So it can be concluded that pet attachment is positively and significantly related to subjective well-being, so the hypothesis is accepted. This shows that the higher the level of pet attachment, the higher the level of subjective well-being of pet owners in Pekanbaru City, and vice versa.
